Hailing from Pinar del Rio, Cuba, and now based in NYC, Yusnier Sánchez Bustamante is a rare, in-demand percussionist whose fiery spirit and joyful passion delight audiences and illuminate the stages and screens he plays.

Upon graduating The National School of Art (Havana, Cuba), he won the Grand Prize (Best Conga Player) in the International Percussion Festival, FIESTA DEL TAMBOR (Havana). He became a professor of Afro-Cuban Percussion at his alma mater, where he studied with master percussionists, including José Luis Quintana (Changuito), Tataguines, Pancho Terry, Enrique Platt, and Julio Barreto.

He toured internationally in several jazz festivals, including Toronto Jazz Festival, Heineken Jazz Fest, Bermuda Jazz Festival, and joined the prestigious jazz band, HAVANA ENSEMBLE. He also created a conga method video series that was sold in Japan.

After a European tour, Yusnier moved to Madrid, where he collaborated with one of greatest producers in Spain, Javier Limón, and subsequently worked and recorded with Grammy award-nominated/winning artists like Concha Buika, Pasión Vega, Joaquin Sabina, Jerry Gonzalez, Alain Perez, master drummer Horacio "El negro" Hernandez, Israel Suárez (Piraña), and Jose Luis Perales (this record went Platinum).

In 2010, he moved to NYC. Some highlights: recording original music for and appearing in Woody Allen's film, CAFÉ SOCIETY; a series of gigs with the legendary Jack DeJohnette, Esperanza Spalding, and Al Di Meola; a summer residency at the iconic Rainbow Room with The Max Weinberg Orchestra. He has toured internationally everywhere from Morocco to Montreal, from Vancouver to Qatar; and has collaborated with highly-acclaimed artists like Dave Murray, Yosvany Terry, Eddie Martinez, John Benitez, Xiomara Laugart, Osmany Paredes, Mark Weinstein, Luisito Quintero, Hector Martignon, and the great Richard Bona, among others.

He's busy creating a new Afro-Latin jazz project, which will be debuting in 2023.
